Plenty of affiliate programs track everything and understand nothing. Measuring affiliate marketing well comes down to watching the few numbers that show whether the program is actually making money, and knowing what each one is telling you. Here are the ones that matter.
Start with the goal, not the dashboard
Before you open any report, be clear on what you are measuring toward: more depositing players, higher value per player, lower acquisition cost. Metrics only mean something in service of a goal. Pick the outcome first, then watch the numbers that move it.
The metrics that matter
A handful of figures carry most of the signal.
- Clicks and click-through rate. How much traffic affiliates send, and how compelling their placements are. A useful top-of-funnel signal, though clicks on their own pay nothing.
- Conversion rate. The share of clicks that become the action you pay for, a registration or a first deposit. This is where you see which affiliates send traffic that actually converts.
- Cost per acquisition (CPA). What you pay to bring in each player through affiliates. It keeps your spending honest.
- Player lifetime value (LTV). What an acquired player is genuinely worth over time. This is the number that separates affiliates who send volume from those who send value.
- Return on investment (ROI). Revenue from affiliate-driven players measured against what you paid to acquire them. The bottom line for the whole channel.
- Retention of affiliate players. Whether the players an affiliate sends stick around or churn the moment the welcome bonus is spent.
The trap: judging affiliates on volume
The most common measurement mistake is ranking affiliates by clicks or sign-ups. An affiliate sending 500 players who never deposit is worth less than one sending 50 who stay and play. Tie performance back to value and ROI, not raw counts, and your rankings change completely.
Measure per affiliate, not just overall
Program-wide totals hide the story. The real insight comes from breaking every metric down by individual affiliate, so you can see exactly who drives depositing players and a genuine return, then reward and renegotiate accordingly.
